The Jaguar F-Pace has been updated for 2023 (2024MY) to help it keep, erm, pace with sporty SUV rivals like the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne.

Plug-in hybrid versions of the F-Pace get an improved electric range. Plus, there’s a new Black Pack for all except the basic model, and the entire line-up gets more equipment and improved infotainment.

The updated Jaguar F-Pace is on sale now, with prices starting from £48,660 for a basic D200 diesel in R-Dynamic S trim. Plug-in hybrid P400e models start from £60,985, and the stonkingly fast P550 SVR tops the range, costing £84,940. By comparison, a BMW X5 costs between £65,000 and £84,250.

2023 Jaguar F-Pace: P400e plug-in hybrid

The plug-in hybrid version of the Jaguar F-Pace accounts for one in five sales in the UK – but, fun fact, 98 per cent of sales are in the Netherlands – so you can understand why Jaguar would want to improve it.

You get a larger 19.2kWh battery that has increased the car’s pure electric range from 33 to 40 miles, a 20 per cent improvement that could make a big difference if you have a short commute and somewhere to charge the car. During the week, you can run on cheap electric power, only needing to pay for petrol on longer weekend trips.

The larger battery means the F-Pace returns official fuel economy of 176mpg and produces CO2 emissions of 37g/km. The car’s benefit-in-kind tax rate has dropped from 12 to 8 per cent, as a result. Performance remains the same. The PHEV produces 400bhp and squirts from 0-62mph in five seconds.

2023 Jaguar F-Pace: exterior, interior and infotainment updates

Depending on which F-Pace you go for, wheels range from 19-21 inches in size and you can choose to have them diamond-cut or finished in black. The P400 Sport, which comes fitted with the 395bhp 3.0-litre petrol, now gets larger 22-inch wheels as standard.

Also standard – except on the basic R-Dynamic S trim – is the Black Pack, which swaps chrome for gloss black everywhere, from the grille to the boot trim and everything in between.

The interior has also received a dash of modernity. Now all models get a digital driver’s display that allows you to choose between displays, including a large satnav map, and the Pivi Pro centre screen now comes armed with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.

2023 Jaguar F-Pace: engines and performance

While the plug-in hybrid F-Pace has received a major update, the rest of the range stays the same.

The SVR model still tops the range, serving up a mighty 542bhp, courtesy of a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 that hurtles this sizable SUV from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds and onto a 178mph top speed. It’s a lot of fun, but you’re unlikely to say the same about paying to run it.

Porsche Cayenne review

The rest of the range is more sensible. It kicks off with four-cylinder engines in the form of a 247bhp petrol and 201bhp diesel. Further up the range, you have the silky smoothness of six-cylinder units in the form of a 296bhp diesel and 395bhp petrol. We’ll have a full review of the new Jaguar F-Pace in the coming months.
