Order books have opened for the updated Peugeot 2008. It gets revised looks and a larger infotainment screen as standard, while electric models get more power and an increased range. Peugeot has also announced a new hybrid model, which joins the range next year.
The 2008 is one of the most strikingly styled options in a small SUV class that includes the Ford Puma, Nissan Juke and Volkswagen T-Cross.

2023 Peugeot 2008 exterior design
Rather than a radical overhaul, the updated Peugeot 2008 gets a revised look that brings it into line with the firm’s newer models.
At the front, you get Peugeot’s new badge and the distinctive ‘three-claw’ light signature first seen on the new 508. New alloy wheels update the car in profile – Active models get 16-inch versions; Allure and GT models get 17-inch diamond-cut wheels – and GT models also get a contrast roof finished in black.
Changes at the back, meanwhile, are limited to redesigned tail lights.
2023 Peugeot 2008: infotainment, standard equipment and trim levels
Much like the exterior, the 2008’s interior was already one of the most stylish in the class, with striking shapes and infotainment screens packed full of neat animations.
All versions now get a 10-inch central screen (instead of the seven-inch display previously fitted to basic cars), with new features like wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. A new-look steering wheel featuring Peugeot’s updated logo completes the look.
For the full infotainment experience, you’ll need to go for an Allure model or higher, which get another 10-inch screen in place of analogue dials.
For 2023, Peugeot has removed Premium variants from the range, cutting your choice of trim levels in half.
Active models kick off the line-up, featuring Calcite interior stitching and Mistral headlining. You get kit like reversing sensors, cruise control and automatic emergency brakes.

As well as getting a digital instrument binnacle, Allure models add built-in voice recognition (which isn’t as good as the standard system offered by Apple CarPlay or Android Auto), front parking sensors, an electronic handbrake and selectable drive modes.
GT models feel posher again. They get a 3D Quartz display which gives the digital instrument binnacle visual depth – making it one of the prettiest displays in the class – a leather-trimmed steering wheel and selectable ambient lighting with eight colour choices. A handy reversing camera and auto-dipping LED headlights are also standard.
On top of the standard line-up, First Edition models will also be available – they’re easily spotted by their unique shades of Selenium Grey and Okenite White paint.
First Edition models throw the kitchen sink at the spec sheet. You get Alcantara upholstery, electrically adjustable and heated front seats with a massage function and built-in sat-nav. Electric models also get an 11kW onboard charger that's significantly quicker than the 7kW standard system.
2023 Peugeot 2008 engines, motors, range and drive
The updated Peugeot 2008’s powertrains stay broadly similar to the ones fitted to the outgoing model.
As before, it’s the electric model that steals the headlines. Peugeot’s electric 2008 was already one of the best of its type, giving the little SUV the instant shove and refinement of a far more expensive SUV.
The 2023 model gets a new 152bhp electric motor – 15 per cent more powerful than before – while its 54kWh battery is good for a range of 251 miles, up from 214 miles.
Peugeot’s 1.2-litre PureTech three-cylinder petrol acts as the bedrock of the range, providing surprisingly punchy performance and strong fuel economy of around 45mpg, irrespective of which version you choose.
It’s available in two specifications – Active models get it in 99bhp tune, which comes in tandem with a six-speed manual gearbox. Allure models get the engine in 128bhp specification, with an optional conventional eight-speed automatic gearbox available. GT cars, meanwhile, get the automatic gearbox as standard.
A new hybrid model will follow in 2024. It uses the PureTech petrol engine combined with a gearbox-mounted electric motor to produce 134bhp. It’s 20 per cent more efficient than a non-hybridised PureTech and comes with a quick-shifting, six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
