Back seats fold back completely in the 5 seat version, unlike most similar cars like Lexus, Mercedes, Porsche. More reliable than Range Rover.

Audi Q7 (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Serene ride on air suspension | Strong resale values make used examples expensive |
| Beautifully made and practical interior | Third row not as roomy as a Land Rover Discovery's |
| SQ7 is very fast indeed | Styling looks a bit awkward |
Quick Summary
The Audi Q7 (2015-present) is the second generation of Audi's prestigious seven-seat luxury SUV. Weighing around 240kg less than its predecessor, it delivers improved ride and handling whilst maintaining surprising economy for a car of its size. The interior is superbly finished with a standard of quality that rivals premium competitors. With three individually adjustable middle-row seats and a cavernous 1,908-litre boot when rear seats are folded, the Q7 offers exceptional practicality for families and those requiring genuine seven-seat capability.
The 3.0-litre diesel engine comes in 218bhp and 268bhp versions, both delivering impressive performance and pulling power for towing. The 2019 facelift introduced a fully digital cockpit, mild-hybrid technology, and enhanced infotainment systems. Running costs are reasonable for a luxury SUV of this calibre, with realistic fuel economy in the mid-30s mpg. The SQ7 variant offers thrilling performance for those seeking a high-performance option. Strong resale values reflect the Q7's desirability and quality, making it an excellent choice for used car buyers seeking a premium, practical, and well-engineered SUV.
Best for: Families requiring genuine seven-seat luxury, those prioritising comfort and refinement, buyers seeking a practical premium SUV with strong resale values, and performance enthusiasts (SQ7).
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those seeking the roomiest third row (Land Rover Discovery offers more), or those who prefer conventional styling over contemporary design.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi Q7 | 5/5 | 4.6/5 | 34.3% | 4.5/5 |

| Land Rover Discovery | 4/5 | N/A | 35.8% | 4.1/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Q7 if: You require a premium seven-seat luxury SUV with exceptional build quality, seek a serene and refined driving experience, prioritise practicality with comfort, or desire the thrilling SQ7 performance variant.
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, require the absolute maximum third-row space (Land Rover Discovery), or prefer Scandinavian minimalism (Volvo XC90).
Competitive Position: The Audi Q7 (2015-present) stands as a benchmark in the luxury SUV segment, matching the BMW X5 for expert appeal whilst offering superior interior refinement and practicality. Its beautifully crafted cabin and serene ride quality on air suspension set it apart from rivals. Whilst the Volvo XC90 attracts higher user ratings and the Land Rover Discovery offers more third-row space, the Q7's combination of performance, luxury, and engineering excellence makes it the preferred choice for discerning buyers. Strong resale values reflect its desirability, though used examples command premium prices. The SQ7 variant provides an exhilarating alternative for performance enthusiasts.
