Jaguar F-Pace (2016-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Great to drive | High running costs with V8 models |
| Good standard equipment | Poor interior quality on pre-facelift cars |
| Roomy and practical | Firm ride, especially on larger wheels |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar F-Pace (2016-present) is Jaguar's first venture into the premium midsize SUV market, combining sharp handling and responsive steering with practical family-friendly space. Launched as a "performance crossover," it delivers engaging driving dynamics that rival established competitors like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. The F-Pace offers an impressive engine range from economical diesels to a thrilling supercharged V8 SVR variant, with most versions providing upwards of 600 litres of boot space. A comprehensive 2021 facelift significantly improved interior quality and introduced the intuitive Pivi Pro infotainment system, making later examples substantially more refined than earlier versions.
The F-Pace excels as a family SUV that combines practicality with genuine driving pleasure, featuring accurate steering, impressive body control, and responsive brakes. However, potential buyers should be aware that the firm suspension can feel edgy on larger wheels, and running costs vary dramatically depending on engine choice—particularly with the V8 models. Pre-facelift examples may disappoint with dated interiors and clunky infotainment, whilst the plug-in hybrid P400e sacrifices boot space due to battery placement. Despite these considerations, the F-Pace remains a compelling choice for those seeking a premium SUV that's genuinely enjoyable to drive without compromising practicality or comfort.
Best for: Drivers seeking a premium SUV with engaging handling, families needing spacious practicality, and those wanting a performance-oriented alternative to German rivals.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers concerned about running costs, those prioritising maximum comfort over sportiness, or buyers of pre-facelift models seeking modern interior quality.

The Verdict
You should buy the F-Pace if: You're seeking a premium SUV with engaging handling, need spacious practicality for family use, or want a performance-oriented alternative to German rivals.
Consider alternatives if: You're concerned about running costs, prioritise maximum comfort over sportiness, or are considering pre-facelift models without modern interior quality.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar F-Pace is a strong contender in the premium midsize SUV segment, offering superior driving dynamics and engaging handling that rivals the best in class. Whilst the BMW X3 edges ahead on expert ratings and the Audi Q5 offers comparable practicality, the F-Pace distinguishes itself through its sporty character and responsive steering. It outperforms the Alfa Romeo Stelvio across all metrics and delivers better value than some competitors. The 2021 facelift significantly elevated interior quality and technology, making later examples genuinely competitive with established German rivals. However, potential buyers should factor in variable running costs and the firm suspension, particularly on larger wheels, before committing to purchase.

Overall, owners of the Jaguar F-PACE appreciate its comfort, performance, and reliable handling across various model years. They particularly like the responsive steering and spacious interior, enhanced by features like panoramic roofs. What people say
This is an excellent car with every conceivable extra, Heated steering wheel, Heated windscreen, Heated seats front and rear, Cooled front seats. Adaptive Cruise Control, Proximity Alert, 360 Degree cameras, Panoramic Sunroof with electric sliding blind, Quality stereo with Apple Play and Android, Memory electric seats, ambient lighting. There is nothing missing from this car. I know this because I bought it!
I have never driven another car that is as responsive as the jaguar and the quality of finish is superb
Comparing to E-Pace same year 2020 similar model the trim level isnt as nice. It feels less luxurious. However its still pure class. And the glass roof makes traveling in the back so nice. Mpg in the 2lt diesel version averages mid 40s mpg. Its a solid capable large car. The E-Pace was a really nice car to drive and look at however boot space was lacking and I was forever getting battery issues.
I love the cars features and the Jaguar heritage it's a very Happy place to be. I also think it's great value for money. I was initially looking at the Audi Q5 series of SUV but the small boot and unreliability issues put me off.
The z portfolio is a luxury car at a sensible price. Good for both long distance and local shopping visits. Good room for 4/5 adults and plenty of space in the boot.
