Looks great from any angle. The bargain 300hp 2.0 version has plenty of power and returns 35+mpg. Put it in Sports mode and it flies. Would have liked a bit more room inside for a coat, jumper, map etc; the rear shelf is not usable. But as a drivers car its fantastic.

Jaguar F-Type (2013-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Sublime styling | Only two seats |
| Great fun to drive | V8 drinks fuel |
| Relatively good value for what it is | Tiny boot in convertible models |
Quick Summary
The Jaguar F-Type (2013-present) is a stunning two-seater sports car that finally gave Jaguar a true successor to its legendary E-Type. Available in both coupe and convertible forms, the F-Type offers a compelling blend of striking design, engaging driving dynamics, and genuine performance. The 2020 facelift brought significant updates including a sharper design, improved infotainment, and a revised engine lineup with the entry-level 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder P300, alongside supercharged V8 options in the P450 and range-topping P575 R variants.
The F-Type delivers exceptional driving pleasure across its range, from the agile and responsive P300 to the raw, thrilling P575 R with its 575bhp. The coupe offers a practical 299-310 litre boot, whilst the convertible sacrifices some boot space at 200-233 litres. Running costs reflect its performance credentials, with the P300 achieving around 29mpg officially and the V8s returning 25-26mpg. Servicing is competitively priced through Jaguar's fixed-price plans, though insurance groups are high due to the aluminium structure. As a sports car, it prioritises excitement over practicality, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a thrilling, beautifully styled alternative to German rivals.
Best for: Drivers seeking a stunning, engaging sports car with genuine performance, those wanting a British alternative to Porsche and BMW, and buyers who value style and driving pleasure over practicality.
Not ideal for: Families needing more than two seats, those prioritising fuel economy, or buyers concerned about high insurance costs and repair expenses for aluminium bodywork.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaguar F-Type | 4/5 | 4.9/5 | 30.9% | 4.1/5 |
| Porsche 718 Boxster | 5/5 | 5.0/5 | 30.8% | 4.3/5 |
| Audi TT Mk3 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 29.2% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW Z4 E89 | 3/5 | 4.5/5 | 24.5% | 4.0/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the F-Type if: You're seeking a stunning, engaging sports car with genuine performance, want a British alternative to German rivals, or prioritise style and driving pleasure over practicality.
Consider alternatives if: You need more than two seats, prioritise fuel economy, or are concerned about high insurance costs and expensive aluminium bodywork repairs.
Competitive Position: The Jaguar F-Type is a worthy competitor in the premium sports car segment, offering sublime styling and engaging driving dynamics at a relatively accessible price point. Whilst the Porsche 718 Boxster edges ahead on expert ratings and user satisfaction, the F-Type provides excellent value and a distinctly British alternative. It outperforms the BMW Z4 in overall ratings and offers more compelling performance than the Audi TT. The F-Type's combination of striking design, genuine performance across its range, and competitive pricing makes it a compelling choice for enthusiasts seeking a thrilling, beautifully crafted sports car that stands apart from its German competitors.
