Jeep Grand Cherokee Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Comfy on the road, capable off it | It's hugely expensive |
| High quality interior | No seven-seater option |
| Lots of technology on board | European rivals do most things a little better |
Quick Summary
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is America's answer to the Range Rover Sport, a large SUV designed for both on-road comfort and serious off-road capability. The latest fifth-generation model, available exclusively as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the UK, offers a compelling package with a 380hp drivetrain, class-leading legroom, and a substantial 580-litre boot, including underfloor storage and a full-size spare wheel. It excels at smoothing out road imperfections, especially with air suspension, and features a sophisticated four-wheel-drive system for various terrains.
While its infotainment system can be complex, the Grand Cherokee boasts a high-quality interior with advanced technology, including multiple screens and safety features across its trim levels. Running costs are high due to its premium price tag and potential depreciation, but the PHEV system offers impressive official fuel economy figures (up to 97mpg) and an electric-only range of up to 31 miles, provided it's regularly charged and driven efficiently. Despite its size, it doesn't offer a seven-seat option.
Best for: Drivers seeking a comfortable, refined, and highly capable large SUV for both on-road and serious off-road adventures, those looking for a plug-in hybrid option in this segment, and buyers who prioritize a high-quality interior and extensive technology.
Not ideal for: Buyers on a strict budget, those needing a seven-seater SUV, or those who prefer the established badge appeal and slightly better overall dynamic polish of European rivals.

The Verdict
You should buy the Grand Cherokee if: You're seeking a comfortable, refined, and highly capable large SUV for both on-road and serious off-road adventures, desire a plug-in hybrid option in this segment, or prioritize a high-quality interior and extensive technology.
Consider alternatives if: You're on a strict budget, require a seven-seater SUV, or prefer the established badge appeal and slightly better overall dynamic polish of European rivals.
Competitive Position: The latest Jeep Grand Cherokee significantly closes the gap on its European rivals, offering a compelling blend of on-road refinement, impressive off-road prowess, a high-quality interior, and advanced technology. Its exclusive plug-in hybrid powertrain is a unique selling point, offering potential for lower running costs for the right user. While it faces stiff competition from established premium SUVs like the Range Rover Sport and Mercedes G-Class, its combination of practicality, equipment, and distinct American styling makes it a strong, albeit expensive, contender.

4.6 Overall rating
(11 reviews)Good value missing nothing I would compare to range rover
Brilliant vehicle. I’ve had 4 of them. Used for towing horse box. The pulling power is more than sufficient along with superb reliability. Saying that, preventative maintenance is my mantra. A little expensive on day to day running costs but, you get what you pay for. Luxury and comfort with all the toys. Looking for number 5.
Ive just got my Jeep and I can honestly say I love it. Very smooth ride indeed loads of extras and just what I needed to pull my Horse Trailer. Very quite running for a Deisel, best Big Truck Ive owned Runs and drives as good as it looks, Alot of car for the money
Excellent value for money with so many extras comfort and punchy this car is no slouch and will climb mountains when required steady and sturdy unbreakable with a remarkable 3.0 l Merc engine give good mpg for its size
This car is a SP{ORT Utility Vehicle , 0-60 in 5 seconds, top speed 160mph. Has every bell and whistle. I am compering this with my 2002 Grand Cherokee 4.7litre. Immaculate condition and a good price.
