This car is a very comfortable ride, very little noise whether its in ev or hev. Spec is very good on this model and is quite economical to run. My insurance did go up quite a lot though from having a Nissan Qashqai before.

Excellent motor to drive, especially when in sport mode. Unfortunately it was missing floor mats and the satnav sd card , but it has android auto. Its very comfortable. I cant compare it to any other hybrid because its the first hybrid Ive ever driven, but I would highly recommend this model.

Kia Niro (2016-2022) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Roomy for passengers | Small boot on PHEV |
| Low running costs | Dull to drive |
| PHEV or standard hybrid options | Lacks polish of e-Niro |
Quick Summary
The Kia Niro (2016-2022) is a distinctive small SUV that pioneered the concept of offering only electrified powertrains. Available as a self-charging hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), or full-electric model, it provides flexibility for different driving needs. The hybrid delivers respectable fuel economy of around 45-50mpg in real-world driving, whilst the PHEV offers up to 30 miles of pure electric range for those with charging facilities. Space inside is reasonable for four adults, though the middle rear seat is tight, and boot capacity is acceptable at 373 litres for the hybrid and 324 litres for the PHEV.
Build quality is solid, and the touchscreen infotainment system is responsive and intuitive, though interior styling is conservative. Performance is adequate around town but both models are heavy and lack agility on motorways. The Niro's excellent reliability reputation and seven-year warranty are significant advantages. However, rivals such as the Skoda Karoq and Peugeot 3008 offer better driving dynamics, more spacious interiors, and superior styling. Running costs are low, with insurance groups ranging from 11 to 15 out of 50, and servicing is reasonably priced.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking low running costs, those with access to charging facilities (PHEV), families prioritising passenger space, and buyers valuing Kia's reliability reputation.
Not ideal for: Drivers wanting engaging handling, those seeking premium interior quality, buyers requiring maximum boot space, or those who won't regularly charge a PHEV.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia Niro | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 35.3% | 4.3/5 |
| Skoda Karoq | 5/5 | 5.0/5 | 39.5% | 4.6/5 |
| Toyota C-HR | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 36.2% | 4.3/5 |
| Peugeot 3008 | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 38.9% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Niro if: You're budget-conscious and seeking low running costs, have access to charging facilities (PHEV), prioritise passenger space, or value Kia's reliability reputation.
Consider alternatives if: You want engaging handling, premium interior quality, maximum boot space, or won't regularly charge a PHEV.
Competitive Position: The Kia Niro (2016-2022) occupies a unique position as the only small SUV offering exclusively electrified powertrains. Whilst it excels in reliability and low running costs, it falls short against rivals like the Skoda Karoq, which scores higher on expert ratings and value, and the Peugeot 3008, which offers superior styling and driving dynamics. The Niro's strength lies in its flexibility with hybrid and PHEV options, making it ideal for budget-conscious buyers. However, for those prioritising driving engagement and interior refinement, competitors offer more compelling packages.
