The Kia Stonic 4 is well appointed and was good value for money. Ours could do with a sunroof. Similar to the Hyundai Koni.

Kia has a good reputation so we decided this model would suit our requirements. It has all the features you would like in a mild hybrid car. The value of second hand cars at the moment is high but we did look around and this was the best deal we could get. the only thing missing is automatic folding mirrors !!! .... We did look at several other makes and models, Renault Capture, MG ZS and Hyundai Kona.

Kia Stonic (2017-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Generous seven-year warranty | Most basic cars miss out on some safety systems |
| Lots of standard kit on all models | Firm ride won't suit everyone |
| Good to drive | Diesel particulate filters can clog if used for short journeys |
Quick Summary
The Kia Stonic is the Korean manufacturer's smallest SUV, launched in 2017 to compete with rivals such as the Seat Arona, Citroën C3 Aircross, and Skoda Kamiq. Built on the same mechanical platform as the Kia Rio hatchback, it offers a compact footprint with impressive build quality and well-appointed interiors. The cabin features a low driver's seat that feels more hatchback-like than typical SUVs, providing a more engaging driving experience. With a 352-litre boot and space for five occupants, the Stonic balances practicality with style, majoring on distinctive exterior design and comprehensive equipment levels across the range.
The Stonic is more competent and agile through corners than expected, resisting body roll whilst feeling taut and keen, though the firmer ride may not suit those prioritising comfort. Engine options include a 1.4-litre petrol (98bhp), a more efficient 1.0-litre turbo T-GDi (118bhp), and a 1.6-litre diesel (108bhp). Running costs are competitive, with the 1.0-litre turbo achieving around 56.5mpg and insurance groups ranging from 8 to 14 of 50. Kia's renowned seven-year warranty and strong reliability record provide excellent peace of mind, whilst fixed-price servicing plans offer protection against inflation.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish compact SUV with excellent equipment, strong warranty coverage, and engaging driving dynamics; families wanting a practical yet fun-to-drive vehicle; those prioritising reliability and peace of mind.
Not ideal for: Drivers requiring maximum rear headroom or those preferring a softer, more comfortable ride; buyers seeking maximum boot space or the lowest possible running costs; those needing extensive safety systems on entry-level models.

| Skoda Kamiq | 5/5 | 5.0/5 | 38.4% | 4.6/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Stonic if: You want a stylish compact SUV with excellent equipment, strong warranty coverage, and engaging driving dynamics; you're seeking a practical yet fun-to-drive family vehicle; you prioritise reliability and peace of mind.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum rear headroom, prefer a softer ride, need maximum boot space, or want extensive safety systems on entry-level models.
Competitive Position: The Kia Stonic is a very good all-rounder in the compact SUV segment, offering impressive levels of standard equipment, engaging driving dynamics, and Kia's renowned seven-year warranty. Whilst the Skoda Kamiq edges ahead with a slightly higher expert rating and overall score, the Stonic matches the Seat Arona on ratings and offers better value for money. It outperforms the Citroën C3 Aircross across all metrics. The Stonic deserves serious consideration for those seeking a stylish, well-equipped, and reliable compact SUV with excellent warranty protection.
