Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006-2014) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Drives well on the road and off it | Reliability is not a strong point |

| The Freelander 2 is a very stable tow car | The 3.2-litre petrol is exceptionally thirsty |
Quick Summary
The Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006-2014) offers remarkable off-road capability, making it a compelling choice for those who need adventure-ready transport or a stable tow car. Its smart, upmarket cabin comfortably accommodates four adults, and the large 755-litre boot, featuring a reversible waterproof floor, adds to its practicality, though the boot can be narrow due to wheel arches. With robust turbodiesel engines like the TD4 and SD4, and an intelligent four-wheel-drive system, it delivers a relaxing, refined, and comfortable driving experience, even if it's not the most agile on tarmac.
Standard equipment across all trims includes alloy wheels, climate control, and electric windows, with higher specifications adding luxurious touches like leather upholstery, panoramic sunroofs, and advanced Meridian hi-fi systems. While the Freelander 2 excels in blending off-road prowess with on-road sophistication, akin to a mini Range Rover, potential buyers should be aware of reported reliability issues. Despite this, its unique blend of attributes makes it an attractive option for year-round mobility and rugged utility.
Best for: Drivers needing genuine off-road capability or a stable tow car, those seeking a refined and comfortable compact SUV with a smart cabin, and buyers valuing year-round mobility.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising ultimate reliability, those who need superior on-road handling or quieter operation, or require a wider boot opening for specific items.

4.5 Overall rating
(27 reviews)Having had 2 HSE models from 2007 to 2017 I found them to be excellent vehicles. I had no problems with them and they covered all the bases for my travel and passenger needs.
Having owned 2 from 2007 to 2017 I enjoyed reliability, comfort, good economy for its size and the pleasure of driving it. Replaced it with a (Freelander 3 )the Discovery Sport.
Roomy, comfortable, well made and a joy to drive. Car is equipped with all the bells and whistles that I need and hopefully will last a good few years.
Excellent car in every way. The only downside is my wife wont let me drive it.
Excellent vehicle, great driving position. Full space in rear when lifting door. Max storage for large kit.
