Yes the car was good value. It has the added advantage of having a retractable towbar which if we had chosen a different model would have cost us another £3000 to have one fitted. Hence the reason we bought it.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fantastically luxurious interior | Question marks over brand reliability |
| Great to drive on and off road | No seven-seat option |
| Impressive EV range for PHEV models | Higher-spec models are very pricey |
Quick Summary
The Range Rover Sport (2022-present) is a world-class luxury SUV that combines modern, lavish styling with exceptional driving dynamics. Based on JLR's MLA-Flex platform, this third-generation model delivers impressive refinement and technology. The adaptive air suspension provides fantastic ride comfort, whilst the poised handling belies the car's substantial size and weight. Available powertrains include diesel mild-hybrids, petrol plug-in hybrids with up to 71.5 miles of electric-only range, and twin-turbo V8 engines. The spacious interior features limousine-like rear legroom, a 647-litre boot, and premium leather upholstery with 20-way electric seat controls as standard.
The Range Rover Sport excels whether you're seeking a relaxing drive or enjoying spirited cornering. The latest Pivi Pro infotainment system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, whilst comprehensive driver assistance systems are available. However, durability concerns persist despite improvements, and this is one of the pricier options in an already expensive luxury SUV segment. Four-wheel steering only comes on higher-end models, and the lack of a seven-seat configuration may disappoint some buyers. Running costs are predictably high, with servicing every 12 months or 10,000 miles.
Best for: Luxury SUV buyers seeking exceptional comfort, refinement, and on-road performance, those wanting impressive electric range in a PHEV, and drivers prioritising premium interior quality and technology.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those requiring seven-seat capacity, buyers concerned about brand reliability, or those seeking the most affordable option in the luxury SUV class.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Range Rover Sport | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 42.2% | 4.5/5 |
| Porsche Cayenne | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 36.8% | 4.4/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz GLE | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 36.4% | 4.4/5 |
| BMW X5 | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 37.7% | 4.6/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Range Rover Sport if: You seek exceptional luxury, refinement, and on-road performance, want impressive electric range in a PHEV, or prioritise premium interior quality and technology.
Consider alternatives if: You require seven-seat capacity, are concerned about brand reliability, need the most affordable luxury SUV option, or prioritise driving dynamics above all else.
Competitive Position: The Range Rover Sport is a world-class luxury SUV that stands out for its fantastically luxurious interior, balanced handling, and impressive powertrain options. Whilst the BMW X5 edges ahead with a higher expert rating and overall score, the Range Rover Sport offers superior value for money with 42.2% good or great deals available. It outperforms the Mercedes-Benz GLE and matches the Porsche Cayenne on expert ratings, though the Cayenne achieves a perfect user rating. The Range Rover Sport's combination of comfort, technology, and versatile powertrains makes it a compelling choice for luxury SUV buyers, despite reliability concerns and premium pricing on higher-spec models.
