Customers say
The MINI Mini Countryman is highly regarded for its fun driving experience, comfort, and stylish design. Many owners appreciate its nippy performance and the added height that makes it feel more like an SUV. However, some have expressed concerns about visibility in tight spots and the overall price, especially when factoring in additional features that may not be standard. Overall, it's a compact SUV that balances practicality and enjoyment.

This 2.0 litre model performs extremely well as one would expect for a Cooper S variant, despite the size of the car. It has good acceleration, amazing stopping power and feels like a much bigger car. Overall, this car exceeded my expectation.

The inside of the 5 door felt incredibly cramped, very little room for a bale of hay. I find the 3 door is much more versatile.

MINI Countryman (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of interior space | Interior doesn't impress as much for quality |
| Well equipped | Infotainment has some ergonomic issues |
| Very stylish interior | Many rivals ride more comfortably |
Quick Summary
The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is the third-generation version of MINI's family SUV, offering considerably more space and practicality than its predecessors. Considerably larger in every direction, it provides generous interior space with excellent legroom for all passengers and a decent boot with additional underfloor storage. The range includes three petrol variants—the entry-level C, mid-range S, and high-performance John Cooper Works (JCW)—plus two all-electric versions (E and SE). The standout feature is the industry-first circular OLED infotainment screen, designed to echo the iconic circular speedo on classic MINI models.
The Countryman delivers the style and fun expected of the MINI brand whilst appealing to families seeking practicality. The C variant offers adequate performance with 168bhp, whilst the JCW provides thrilling acceleration with 296bhp and all-wheel drive. The adaptive suspension on JCW and Sport trim models significantly improves ride comfort. Fuel economy ranges from 46.3mpg on the C to 36.2mpg on the JCW, with electric variants offering up to 287 miles of range. However, some interior plastics lack the quality expected of the brand, the infotainment system can be confusing to navigate, and the ride is notably firm. Despite these limitations, the Countryman successfully combines MINI's cheeky character with genuine family practicality.
Best for: Families seeking a stylish, spacious SUV with MINI brand appeal, those wanting practical space without sacrificing character, and buyers interested in electric vehicle options.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising premium interior quality, drivers seeking the most intuitive infotainment systems, or those who prefer a softer, more comfortable ride.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| MINI Countryman | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 38.7% | 4.4/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz GLA | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 43.1% | 4.4/5 |
| BMW X1 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 39.2% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi Q2 | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 41.7% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Countryman if: You're seeking a stylish, spacious SUV with MINI brand appeal, want practical family space without sacrificing character, or are interested in electric vehicle options.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior quality, prefer the most intuitive infotainment systems, or desire a softer, more comfortable ride.
Competitive Position: The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a compelling choice in the premium compact SUV segment, offering distinctive styling, generous space, and excellent standard equipment. Whilst rivals like the BMW X1 may offer a slightly more refined ride and the Mercedes-Benz GLA provides better value deals, the Countryman's unique character and stylish interior make it stand out. The Audi Q2 offers a more traditional premium feel, but the Countryman's practicality and MINI's cheeky personality give it genuine appeal for families seeking something different. Its range of powertrains, including electric options, adds versatility for modern buyers.
