Mercedes-Benz EQC (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Relaxed and comfortable to drive | Not as much fun as a Jaguar I-Pace |
| Very quick, but cheap to charge | High insurance premiums |
| Spacious and practical | Some rivals can recharge more quickly |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz EQC (2019-present) marks the brand's entry into the pure-electric SUV market, positioned against the Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace. Available as the EQC 400 4Matic with an 80kWh battery, it offers a real-world driving range of 200-220 miles, proving efficient for its class. Charging is versatile, accommodating 7kW home wallboxes and rapid DC charging up to 100kW, allowing an 80% top-up in 40 minutes at ultra-rapid stations.
This five-seat SUV boasts a spacious interior with a 500-litre boot and comfortable rear seating, though the middle seat is less practical. Its driving experience is a highlight, providing a serene, comfortable, and refined ride with 402bhp, encouraging a calm yet capable journey. The cabin exudes premium quality with a dual-screen infotainment system, though some desirable features are optional. Running costs are significantly lower than combustion engine alternatives due to electric power and tax exemptions, making it a financially attractive option despite high insurance.
Best for: Drivers seeking a comfortable, refined, and powerful electric SUV, those looking for lower running costs and tax benefits, and buyers who appreciate a premium interior.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising sharper handling (like the Jaguar I-Pace), those needing faster charging speeds than 100kW, or those who expect adaptive cruise control and Apple CarPlay as standard on all trims.

The Verdict
You should buy the EQC if: You seek a sumptuous, comfortable, and refined electric SUV with all the financial and environmental perks of an EV. It's also a good choice if you're looking for a more affordable premium electric SUV through competitive finance deals or nearly-new examples.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sharper handling (like the Jaguar I-Pace) or faster charging speeds (like the Audi e-tron), or if you require adaptive cruise control and Apple CarPlay as standard on all trims.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz EQC is a strong contender in the premium electric SUV market, offering a luxurious and comfortable driving experience. While it may not match the driving dynamics of a Jaguar I-Pace or the ultra-fast charging capabilities of some rivals, its efficiency, refinement, practicality, and the significant financial benefits of electric ownership make it a highly compelling choice. It presents good value, especially for budget-conscious buyers considering nearly-new examples or competitive finance offers.

4.5 Overall rating
(4 reviews)Lovely comfortable car with great performance for the price
Great vehicle,Drives smooth and quiet, lovely interior and pretty good tech. Easy to navigate control buttons and clear instruction. Love the touch screens and sharpness of the colours. Very specious. And comfy to drive
Lacks range otherwise its a nice car but pricey
The Mercedes-Benz EQC is a really marvelous car to drive, quiet, responsive. magnificantly put together in the cabin, MBUX system is still to be mastered but already one of the best systems I have had. Cannot shout loud enough about the quality of the car ....... except range, what a disappointment although advertised at 259 miles have only managed to achieve maximum 213 real mileage.
