Mercedes-Benz GLC Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| High-quality interior | Expensive, even by the standards of the class |
| Well equipped as standard | Adaptive cruise control costs extra |
| PHEV has huge electric-only range | PHEV versions have a small boot |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a consummate family SUV that combines refinement, comfort and class with impressive practicality. This third-generation model sits on a heavily updated rear-wheel-drive platform that is longer and stiffer than its predecessor, improving interior space. Every version is electrified in some way, with 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines alongside plug-in hybrids offering up to 78 miles of electric-only range. The spacious interior features high-quality materials and contrasting finishes, with a lovely driving position and excellent all-round visibility. Boot space is generous at 620 litres in mild-hybrid form, though plug-in hybrids sacrifice some of this for battery hardware.
The plug-in hybrid GLCs make a persuasive case, particularly for company car drivers, thanks to their low tax liabilities and useful electric range. The 300e petrol PHEV combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a 134bhp electric motor for 313bhp total, whilst the 300de diesel PHEV delivers 333bhp. Both hit 62mph in under seven seconds. For private buyers, the GLC remains highly desirable but list prices are on the high side, with key features pushing you towards more expensive trim levels. However, the quality, comfort and badge appeal are hard to ignore, and if you can secure a competitive finance deal or find a nearly-new example at the right price, the GLC is one of the most rounded premium SUVs available.
Best for: Company car drivers seeking low tax liabilities and electric range, buyers prioritising premium quality and comfort, and those wanting a spacious and refined family SUV.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those seeking the sharpest handling dynamics, or drivers wanting adaptive cruise control as standard on all trims.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz GLC | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 34.6% | 4.4/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the GLC if: You're a company car driver seeking low tax liabilities and electric range, you prioritise premium quality and comfort, or you want a spacious and refined family SUV.
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, seeking the sharpest handling dynamics, or require adaptive cruise control as standard on all trims.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a strong contender in the premium mid-size SUV market, offering exceptional interior quality, comprehensive standard equipment and impressive plug-in hybrid technology with class-leading electric range. Whilst it commands a higher price than rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3, the GLC's refinement, comfort and badge appeal justify the premium for many buyers. The Volvo XC60 offers comparable safety credentials and comfort, whilst the BMW X3 delivers sharper handling dynamics. For company car drivers, the GLC's plug-in hybrid variants make an especially compelling case thanks to their low tax liabilities and useful electric-only range. For private buyers seeking a rounded, upmarket family SUV, the GLC remains one of the finest choices available, provided you can secure a competitive finance deal or find a nearly-new example at the right price.

5 Overall rating
(3 reviews)I'm happy with the car features. The car is good value for the mileage.
Love this model! Better than the GLE. Quality interior compared to other equivalent manufacturers.
The model I chose being a GLC 250D Premium Plus AMG Line has a good luxury specification and performance. For an SUV this is a reasonably economical vehicle. 2016 makes it also car road tax efficient. Also the car insurance is not astronomical.
