Love this model! Better than the GLE. Quality interior compared to other equivalent manufacturers.

The model I chose being a GLC 250D Premium Plus AMG Line has a good luxury specification and performance. For an SUV this is a reasonably economical vehicle. 2016 makes it also car road tax efficient. Also the car insurance is not astronomical.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| High-quality interior | Expensive, even by the standards of the class |
| Well equipped as standard | Adaptive cruise control costs extra |
| PHEV has huge electric-only range | PHEV versions have a small boot |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a consummate family SUV that combines refinement, comfort and class with impressive practicality. This third-generation model sits on a heavily updated rear-wheel-drive platform that is longer and stiffer than its predecessor, improving interior space significantly. Every version is electrified in some way, with 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines alongside plug-in hybrids offering up to 78 miles of WLTP-tested electric range. The high-quality interior, featuring tactile materials and contrasting finishes, sets it apart from rivals, whilst the spacious 620-litre boot (in mild-hybrid form) makes it one of the most accommodating cars in its class.
For company car drivers, the GLC plug-in hybrids make enormous sense, combining strong performance with very low tax liabilities and useful electric range. For private buyers, the picture is more nuanced. Whilst the GLC remains highly desirable with impressive long-range plug-in hybrid technology and one of the slickest infotainment systems in the class, list prices are on the high side and key features can quickly push you towards more expensive trim levels. The BMW X3 feels sharper and more agile if driving enjoyment is your priority, and rivals can offer similar space and performance for less money.
Best for: Company car drivers seeking low tax liabilities, buyers prioritising premium interior quality and comfort, and those wanting a spacious and refined family SUV with strong standard equipment.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those seeking the sharpest handling dynamics, or drivers wanting adaptive cruise control without paying extra.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz GLC | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 35.3% | 4.4/5 |
| Volvo XC60 | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 33.8% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi Q5 | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 32.9% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW X3 | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 33.4% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the GLC if: You're a company car driver seeking low tax liabilities, prioritising premium interior quality and comfort, or wanting a spacious and refined family SUV with strong standard equipment.
Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, seeking the sharpest handling dynamics, or require adaptive cruise control without paying extra.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a highly desirable premium mid-size SUV that excels in refinement, comfort and interior quality. Whilst the Volvo XC60 edges ahead on overall CarGurus rating and the BMW X3 offers sharper handling, the GLC's superior standard equipment, high-quality materials and impressive plug-in hybrid technology make it compelling for company car drivers. For private buyers, rivals can offer similar space and performance for less money, but the GLC's badge appeal and class-leading infotainment system justify the premium for those who can secure a competitive finance deal or find a nearly-new example at the right price.
