Mercedes-Benz GLE Class (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Luxurious cabin | Not as sporty as a BMW X5 |
| Models with air suspension are supremely comfortable | A Land Rover Discovery is roomier |
| The plug-in hybrid is tax-efficient for company car drivers | Mercedes performs poorly in reliability surveys |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLE Class (2018-present) is a large, luxurious SUV designed for comfort and premium opulence. Available as a conventional SUV (often with seven seats) or a sportier Coupe, it boasts a beautifully crafted interior and abundant space, particularly for first and second-row passengers. While the optional third row is best for children, the boot offers excellent capacity, with five-seat models providing 630 litres and the Coupe an impressive 655 litres.
Driving focuses on a comfortable, quiet ride, especially with the optional air suspension, though it can feel ponderous on twisty roads. The engine lineup includes efficient diesels, powerful petrols, and a 350de plug-in hybrid capable of up to 66 miles on electric power, offering significant fuel savings. While running costs can be high (especially insurance), the GLE combines sophisticated technology with refined performance, making it a versatile choice for families and luxury SUV buyers.
Best for: Drivers seeking a luxurious and comfortable large SUV for families, buyers interested in a tax-efficient plug-in hybrid for shorter journeys, or those looking for a high-performance AMG model.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising sporty handling over comfort, those who need maximum third-row space for adults, or customers concerned about Mercedes' performance in reliability surveys.

The Verdict
You should buy the GLE if: You're seeking a luxurious and comfortable large SUV for families, interested in a tax-efficient plug-in hybrid, or looking for a high-performance AMG model.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise sporty handling, need maximum third-row space for adults, or are concerned about Mercedes' reliability survey performance.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz GLE Class stands out in the large luxury SUV market for its exceptional sense of occasion and opulent interior. While rivals like the BMW X5 might offer sportier handling and the Land Rover Discovery more third-row space, the GLE excels as a refined cruiser. Its broad model range, including efficient plug-in hybrids and potent AMG versions, combined with its premium feel and practicality, positions it as a highly compelling and versatile choice for discerning SUV buyers.

4.8 Overall rating
(13 reviews)Reliable engines and over all performance, combined with a muscular looks, it’s best if f both worlds if you can get it the right price considering that how fast they depreciate, in my opinion it should not be more than 27k
Less features than my previous e class amg. Radio/cd sound quality poor. Less complete eg no compartments under the front seats, no surround under the rear seats. HOWEVER a brilliant large SUV. Compare to Range Rover.
It was smooth in driving just the seat was a bit uncomfortable
Really beautiful car power if the AMG 63 with the practical space of a 4x4 fantastic vehicle
We think that this is the perfect spacious car for us we just need to find one for the right value and good condition
