Its great all-round 4x4 pickup. Lots of features, good engine which gives good performance. Reliable. Stylish looks. Good value for money and holds its value relatively well. One of the best in its sector.

Mitsubishi L200 (2020-2021) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Range-topping models have lots of standard kit | Some rivals offer more power and performance |
| The diesel engine is fuel-efficient | A SsangYong Musso is better value |
| Easier to drive around town than bigger pickups | The Ford Ranger has a bigger load bed |
Quick Summary
The Mitsubishi L200 Series 6 (2020-2021) is a capable and stylish pickup truck that represents a comprehensive update to its predecessor. Featuring a striking front end design and available predominantly as a double-cab with four doors and seating for five, the L200 offers a more refined driving experience than earlier pickup generations. With Mitsubishi's withdrawal from the UK market, used examples now represent a canny purchase, backed by continued servicing facilities and aftersales support. The single 2268cc turbodiesel engine produces 148bhp and 295lb ft of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, delivering respectable fuel economy of 32.1mpg and 29.1mpg respectively.
Practicality remains a strong suit, with a competitive payload of up to 1080kg and a 3.5-tonne towing capacity. The L200 is notably easier to manoeuvre in urban environments than larger rivals, thanks to its smaller turning circle and narrower profile. Six trim levels provide flexibility, from the basic 4Life to the well-equipped Barbarian X with driver assistance systems and automatic transmission. Running costs are reasonable, with insurance groups ranging from 37 to 42, and servicing required every 12,500 miles or annually. Whilst not class-leading in load bed dimensions or engine power compared to the Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux, the L200 offers keen pricing and comprehensive standard equipment, making it a sensible choice for pickup buyers seeking practicality and urban manoeuvrability.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, fuel-efficient pickup with good standard equipment, those who regularly navigate busy urban streets, and drivers prioritising manoeuvrability over maximum load capacity.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum engine power, the largest load bed dimensions, or the lowest running costs in the pickup class.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mitsubishi L200 | 3/5 | 4.4/5 | 34.9% | 4.1/5 |
| Nissan Navara | 4/5 | 4.1/5 | 35.0% | 4.3/5 |
| Ford Ranger | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 34.1% | 4.4/5 |
| Isuzu D-Max | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 21.9% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the L200 if: You seek a stylish, fuel-efficient pickup with good standard equipment, regularly navigate busy urban streets, or prioritise manoeuvrability over maximum load capacity.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum engine power, the largest load bed dimensions, or the lowest running costs in the pickup class.
Competitive Position: The Mitsubishi L200 Series 6 is a capable pickup that doesn't break new ground but offers a comprehensive update to its predecessor. Whilst rivals like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux provide more power and larger load beds, the L200 compensates with keen pricing, comprehensive standard equipment, and superior urban manoeuvrability. The single diesel engine is adequate for most tasks, delivering respectable fuel economy and competitive payload figures. For buyers seeking a stylish, practical pickup that's easier to drive in town than larger rivals, the L200 remains a sensible choice, though it sits in the middle of the competitive pickup market rather than leading it.
