Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Distinctive good looks | Not as good to drive as a Ford Fiesta |
| Economical petrol and diesel engines | Early models lack Bluetooth |
| Excellent safety standards for a car of this age | If the 207 CC's folding roof fails it's expensive to fix |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) is a supermini that succeeded the popular 206, growing in size to offer enhanced practicality. Available in three-door and five-door hatchback, SW estate, and CC convertible body styles, it provides a comfortable and supple ride, with neat handling and sharp steering, though it doesn't quite match the dynamic prowess of a Ford Fiesta. Diesel engines, particularly the 1.6 HDi, offer strong mid-range power and excellent real-world fuel economy of up to 60mpg, making them a cost-effective choice, while petrol engines are generally thirstier.
Inside, the 207 provides ample space for front occupants, with good driver adjustment, but rear legroom can be restrictive for adults on longer journeys. Boot capacity is 270 litres in the hatchback, expanding significantly with the SW estate. Facelifted models from 2009 onwards introduced desirable features like Bluetooth and USB. The 207 earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2006, ensuring good safety for its era, and generally offers low running costs, especially the efficient diesel variants, making it a budget-friendly used car option.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, seeking low running costs (especially diesels), a comfortable ride, good safety for its age, and distinctive looks. Also ideal for those wanting a stylish convertible (CC) or practical estate (SW).
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising ultimate dynamic handling (like a Ford Fiesta), needing generous rear passenger space, or expecting advanced modern infotainment/safety tech as standard on all trims.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 207 | 3/5 | 4.9/5 | 25.5% | 4.0/5 |
| Vauxhall Corsa | 3/5 | 4.5/5 | 28.4% | 4.2/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the 207 if: You're on a budget, seeking a comfortable ride, good safety for its age, and low running costs, especially with efficient diesel engines. Also if you need a practical estate (SW) or a stylish convertible (CC).
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise ultimate dynamic handling, generous rear passenger space, or expect advanced modern infotainment and safety features.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 207 (2006-2014) offers distinctive looks, a comfortable ride, and generally low running costs, especially with its efficient diesel engines. While it provides good safety for its era and practical body styles like the SW estate and CC convertible, it doesn't quite match the dynamic driving experience of a Ford Fiesta or the rear passenger space of some rivals. Its affordability and economical operation make it a sensible choice for budget-conscious buyers, though newer tech and more spacious alternatives exist.

Great cars. I love Peugeots. I’ve had this age of car and model before & even a CC model. Really good price and condition too. It doesn’t have all the new tech stuff in it though like sat nav, but it does have air con which is a must for me. Comfortable and reliable too in my experience.
at least as good as anything in that range, good value,
Seems to drive well for age, a lot available and is reasonably priced for a first car.
