Peugeot 208 (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Sharp and stylish looks | Not as much fun as a Ford Fiesta |
| Comfortable and quiet | Only scored four out of five in Euro NCAP tests |
| Impressive battery-electric version | Quite pricey as a new car |
Quick Summary
The Peugeot 208 (2019-present) is a stylish and modern supermini that stands out in a competitive market thanks to its distinctive design and well-appointed interior. Built on the brand's new CMP platform, this second-generation model offers improved practicality and refinement compared to its predecessor. With a 311-litre boot expanding to 1,106-litres with the rear seats folded, it provides adequate space for small families. The cabin features an upmarket finish, though the trademark i-Cockpit instrument display can result in an awkward driving position for some.
The 208 delivers a comfortable and refined driving experience with willing engines and good ride quality, though it lacks the agility and entertainment of rivals like the Ford Fiesta. The engine line-up includes a 1.2-litre PureTech petrol with multiple power outputs, a 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel, and an impressive all-electric e-208 option with competitive range and lively performance. Running costs are low across the range, with the e-208 requiring less frequent servicing. As a used car, it represents a mature and well-equipped choice for those prioritising style and comfort over driving dynamics.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, comfortable, and well-equipped supermini, those interested in an affordable electric option, and drivers prioritising refinement and modern technology.
Not ideal for: Those wanting the sharpest handling and most engaging drive, budget-conscious buyers seeking the cheapest option, or those requiring the highest Euro NCAP safety rating.

The Verdict
You should buy the 208 if: You're seeking a stylish, comfortable, and well-equipped supermini, interested in an affordable electric option, or prioritising refinement and modern technology.
Consider alternatives if: You want the sharpest handling and most engaging drive, are budget-conscious and seeking the cheapest option, or require the highest Euro NCAP safety rating.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 208 (2019-present) is a strong contender in the supermini market, offering distinctive styling, comfort, and refinement that appeal to buyers prioritising design and quality. Whilst it may not match the Ford Fiesta for driving dynamics or offer the lowest prices, its upmarket feel, impressive electric variant, and modern technology make it a compelling choice. The Seat Ibiza offers similar appeal with slightly better value, whilst the Renault Clio provides a more characterful alternative. For those wanting a stylish, mature, and well-equipped small hatchback, the 208 delivers excellent credentials.

What people say
Excellent build quality and a pleasure to drive. Lots of great features like the 3D Dash display, nicely laid out Plenty of performance from the relatively small engine. 99 positives 1 negative is that the foot pedals are a little too close together. All in all a brilliant little car
Great car very economical perfect for city driving
Very spacious car, sensibly priced, quiet, comfortable, and fuel efficient.
This is my 2nd 208. I have a 2018 208gtlne as well. I have driven lots of cars and vans over the last 40 years including Teslas and hybrids. Quite simply the 208 is the best used medium size hatchback on the market. The new 208 is even better.
Great small car, nippy and smart ideal for learner driver I think
