Renault Kadjar (2015-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Keenly priced as a used car | Dull to drive |
| Spacious and practical interior | Bland interior design |
| Excellent fuel economy | Infotainment system is too fiddly |
Quick Summary
The Renault Kadjar (2015-present) is a spacious and practical family SUV that shares its underpinnings with the Nissan Qashqai. Every model offers a generous 527-litre boot and comfortable seating for five, with well-thought-out storage options throughout. The interior layout is straightforward, though it lacks the versatility of rivals like the Skoda Karoq, with rear seats that split and fold rather than slide. The Kadjar feels somewhat soulless to drive, with earlier models suffering from a slightly bouncy ride, though smaller-wheeled versions with softer tyres are more desirable.
The engine range has evolved significantly, starting with turbocharged 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre diesels and a 1.2-litre petrol, before a 1.6-litre petrol turbo was added in 2017. A 2018 overhaul introduced two 1.3-litre petrols alongside revised diesels. Fuel economy is a strong suit, with efficient diesels achieving around 60mpg and petrol models managing 40-45mpg in real-world driving. Tax costs are particularly attractive for pre-April 2017 models, with some paying as little as £20 annually. Servicing is affordable through Renault's fixed-price menu, and most engines feature timing chains, reducing long-term maintenance costs. As a used car, the Kadjar represents excellent value for budget-conscious buyers prioritising space and practicality.
Best for: Families seeking a spacious, functional, and affordable SUV, budget-conscious buyers prioritising value, and those wanting low running costs and practical interior space.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising engaging handling, premium interior ambience, or intuitive infotainment systems, or those seeking the versatility of sliding rear seats.

The Verdict
You should buy the Kadjar if: You're seeking a spacious, functional, and affordable SUV, prioritising value and low running costs, or wanting a practical family car without premium pricing.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging handling, premium interior ambience, intuitive infotainment systems, or the versatility of sliding rear seats.
Competitive Position: The Renault Kadjar (2015-present) is a sensible choice in the family SUV market, offering excellent value and practicality at an attractive price point. Whilst it may not match rivals like the Peugeot 3008 for user satisfaction or the Nissan Qashqai for overall refinement, its affordability, spacious interior, and impressive fuel economy make it highly appealing for budget-conscious families. The Kadjar's low running costs and straightforward reliability further strengthen its position as a practical, no-nonsense family vehicle.

What people say
Very comfortable, great drive and very spacious. Good milage per gallon and lots of features in the cab. Doesn't have the in cab storage that I was used to but I can get over that. Similar to the Qashqai but in my opinion better.
