Seat Arona (2017-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Light controls make it easy to drive in town | Diesel engines discontinued from mid-2021 |
| Spacious boot by class standards | No hybrid option |
| Composed and comfortable ride | Some owners complain of squeaks and rattles |
Quick Summary
The Seat Arona (2017-present) is a compact crossover SUV that brings SUV styling and enhanced practicality to the small car segment. Built on the Ibiza platform, it offers a surprisingly spacious interior, comfortably accommodating adults in the rear and boasting a generous 400-litre boot, which can be further optimised with an adjustable floor. It provides a balanced and composed driving experience, handling corners well with accurate steering and a comfortable ride that absorbs challenging road surfaces.
Initially available with efficient 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines, alongside 1.6-litre TDI diesels (discontinued post-2021 facelift), the Arona delivers low running costs. Common 1.0-litre petrols can achieve around 50mpg in real-world driving. Insurance costs are reasonable (groups 8E-18E), and its respectable resale values (42-48% after three years) contribute to an inexpensive ownership experience. With modern technology and customisation options, the Arona is a stylish and cost-effective choice in a competitive market.
Best for: Families needing a practical and spacious small SUV, urban drivers due to light controls, buyers seeking good value and modern technology, and those wanting a customisable car with SUV styling.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising ultimate performance (especially with the 95bhp 1.0-litre engine), those who specifically need a diesel engine (for models post-2021), or those seeking a hybrid option.

The Verdict
You should buy the Arona if: You need a practical and spacious small SUV for family or urban driving, value good equipment and technology, and appreciate customisable styling.
Consider alternatives if: You require a diesel engine in newer models, seek a hybrid option, or prioritise a more engaging driving experience over comfort and practicality.
Competitive Position: The Seat Arona is a strong contender in the compact SUV market, offering an attractive blend of style, practicality, and value. Its spacious interior, composed ride, and low running costs make it a sensible choice for families and urban drivers. While it faces stiff competition from rivals like the Ford Puma for driving dynamics and the Skoda Kamiq for sheer value, the Arona stands out with its distinctive styling and comprehensive equipment, especially for budget-conscious buyers.

4 Overall rating
(5 reviews)Car was fine. My previous car was Seat Ibiza so I know the car very well. Just one problem there was no service stamps on the service book?
Nice super mini SUV ,It is a seat ibiza raised up to look like a SUV, interior is a little more spacious than you think, unfortunately i am 6 feet tall and well rounded so when drivers seat back enough for me to be comfortable there will be no room in the rear seat for a passenger. Limited engine options . great for around town but a little under powered if using motorways . Having said this if i was 5ft 8 inches and slim then i would recommend this car without any hesitation.
I am very pleased with my new car, it’s exactly what I wanted, suit’s me to a tee!
I wouldnt know what the Arona is like, I have never driven one. The Kamiq on the other hand is a brilliant car. I have the 1 . 5 TSI Monte Carlo. Its comfortable, spacious and economic. Would recommend it.
Excellent car, great to drive, and was in very nice condition. very pleased
