Seat Mii (2012-2021) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Impressively practical for such a small car | Misses out on more powerful engine that VW Up sister car gets |
| Low running costs for both petrol and electric versions | More expensive than a Skoda Citigo |
| Excellent value for money | Interior a little utilitarian |
Quick Summary
The Seat Mii (2012-2021) is a stylish city car that's mechanically identical to the VW Up and Skoda Citigo. Available with a 1.0-litre petrol engine in 59bhp or 74bhp variants, it offers impressive practicality with a 251-litre boot and comfortable seating for four. From 2019, the petrol model was discontinued and replaced by the Mii Electric, an 83bhp pure electric car with an official WLTP range of 161 miles. The electric version is one of the cheapest EVs available, offering excellent value with a 36.8kWh battery that outperforms rivals like the Fiat 500e and Honda e.
Whether petrol or electric, the Mii is a pleasure to drive with responsive handling and a comfortable ride suitable for both town and open-road use. Running costs are exceptionally low, with the electric version costing just 4.4p per mile to charge, roughly half the cost of the petrol equivalent. Insurance is affordable, servicing is competitively priced, and parts are cheap and plentiful. The 2016 facelift introduced the sportier FR Line with stiffer suspension and generous equipment. Avoid the automatic petrol version, which features a slow-shifting, clunky gearbox unsuitable for this otherwise nippy car.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a practical, reliable city car; those interested in an affordable pure electric vehicle; and drivers wanting low running costs and excellent value for money.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium interior finishes or those seeking the more powerful 89bhp engine available in the VW Up; drivers requiring the basic S trim without air-conditioning.

The Verdict
You should buy the Mii if: You're seeking a practical, reliable city car on a budget; interested in an affordable pure electric vehicle; or looking for exceptionally low running costs and excellent value for money.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior finishes, require the more powerful 89bhp engine, or need air-conditioning as standard on all trims.
Competitive Position: The Seat Mii (2012-2021) is a seriously impressive small car that has been overshadowed by its sister cars, the cheaper Skoda Citigo and the posher VW Up. However, it remains one of the best budget runabouts available, perfectly suited to town driving yet stable enough for confident use on the open road. The later Mii Electric is a thoroughly recommendable and fun little EV, lacking the plush finish of the Fiat 500e but offering one of the best options for budget-conscious buyers seeking a pure electric car. Its 251-litre boot, low running costs, and excellent practicality make it an outstanding choice for those prioritising affordability and reliability.
