Reviewed a 2019 Seat Tarraco on 26 Feb 2023
Excellent car; love the panoramic roof and the virtual dashboard. The ride is quite hard and the sound from the speakers quite tinny. Having owned a Skoda Kodiaq, before, I had assumed that it would be similar. Instead, it felt a little like the poor relation in terms of interior quality, sound quality, and ride.

Seat Tarraco (2018-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of standard equipment | A little pricey compared with some rivals |
| Good to drive | Third row of seats really for kids only |
| Versatile interior | Badge doesn't quite have the kudos of a VW |
Quick Summary
The Seat Tarraco (2018-present) is a stylish and well-designed seven-seat large SUV that arrives late to the market but makes a compelling case for itself. With sharp styling lines and triangular graphics that echo Seat's smaller models, the Tarraco stands out visually amongst its more utilitarian rivals. The cabin is spacious and practical, featuring a 40:20:40 middle-row bench seat and a 700-litre boot (760 litres in five-seat versions), which exceeds competitors like the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe. The third row of seats is best suited for occasional use by children, but the flexible interior and commanding driving position make it an excellent family proposition.
The Tarraco impresses on the road with stability and accurate steering that make it feel more agile than rivals such as the Nissan X-Trail or Sorento. A smooth ride and switchable drive modes add to its appeal. Technology includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital driver display, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Running costs are moderate for the class, with diesel engines offering better economy than petrol alternatives, though real-world figures typically fall below official claims. Insurance groups are relatively high (23E-30E), and first-year VED ranges from £215 to £1,305. The Tarraco offers strong predicted resale values, making it a sensible long-term investment.
Best for: Families seeking a stylish seven-seat SUV with excellent equipment levels, good driving dynamics, and strong resale value; buyers who appreciate design and practicality over badge prestige.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising the lowest purchase price, seeking premium brand appeal (like Volkswagen), or requiring a spacious third row for regular adult passengers.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seat Tarraco | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 37.1% | 4.2/5 |
| Peugeot 5008 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 34.6% | 4.4/5 |
| Volkswagen Tiguan | 5/5 | 4.8/5 | 35.2% | 4.6/5 |
| Skoda Kodiaq | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 36.3% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Tarraco if: You're seeking a stylish seven-seat SUV with excellent equipment levels, good driving dynamics, and strong resale value; you appreciate design and practicality over badge prestige.
Consider alternatives if: You're prioritising the lowest purchase price, seeking premium brand appeal (like Volkswagen), or requiring a spacious third row for regular adult passengers.
Competitive Position: The Seat Tarraco is a compelling choice in the seven-seat SUV segment, offering distinctive styling, generous standard equipment, and engaging driving dynamics. Whilst the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace edges ahead on brand prestige and overall ratings, the Tarraco delivers excellent value and practicality at a more accessible price point. The Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008 are worthy alternatives, but the Tarraco's design flair and well-rounded package make it an attractive proposition for families who value style alongside substance. Its strong predicted resale values further enhance its appeal as a sensible long-term investment.
