Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very roomy for a small SUV | Not as much fun as a Ford Puma |
| Good value for money | There's no fuel-sipping hybrid model |
| Comfortable to travel in and appealing to drive | Lacks the sliding rear seats of some rivals |
Quick Summary
The Skoda Kamiq (2019-present) is a compact crossover that combines practicality with excellent value, offering more interior space than most rivals despite its supermini-sized footprint. With 400 litres of boot space and surprisingly comfortable rear seats, it's a highly serviceable family car. The cabin is well-finished with quality materials, and the plush ride makes it comfortable for long-distance travel. Four spec levels—S, SE, SE L, and Monte Carlo—provide options for different budgets, with progressive upgrades including climate control, smartphone integration, digital cockpit, and premium styling.
Engine choices include three petrol options (94bhp, 114bhp, and 148bhp) and one diesel (114bhp), all delivering impressive fuel economy and willing performance. Even the entry-level petrol doesn't feel underpowered, whilst the 1.5-litre TSI offers genuine pace. Insurance groups are competitive, starting from group eight, and servicing costs are kept reasonable through Skoda's fixed-price maintenance plans. Skoda's reputation for reliability means you can buy with confidence, whether new or used. The only drawback is the lack of a hybrid option and a driving experience that's less engaging than the Ford Puma.
Best for: Families seeking a practical, spacious, and well-finished small SUV with excellent value, comfortable long-distance travel, and low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising engaging handling dynamics, those wanting a hybrid powertrain, or buyers requiring sliding rear seats for flexible interior configurations.
