Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Easy to drive around town | Plasticky cabin |
| Lively 1.2-litre engine | Very small boot |
| Cute and unusual looks | Noisy on a long drive |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Ignis (2016-present) is a characterful and unique small SUV that packs a lot of personality into a tiny footprint. Shorter than a MINI, its funky styling and tall stance make it stand out, while providing a surprisingly spacious interior for four adults. Higher-spec SZ-T and SZ5 models feature two individual sliding rear seats, allowing owners to prioritise either boot space or rear legroom. The boot offers a modest 260 litres (less in four-wheel-drive models), and while some interior plastics feel cheap, the overall cabin design is smart and functional.
At its best in town, the Ignis’s peppy 1.2-litre mild-hybrid engine and compact dimensions make it easy to drive and park. The ride can be bouncy, but it’s a capable motorway cruiser. Running costs are a major highlight, with the standard model achieving around 50mpg and benefiting from lower road tax. The engine’s timing chain reduces long-term maintenance bills. All but the entry-level model include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, compensating for the slow standard infotainment system. An affordable 'Allgrip' four-wheel-drive version is also available.
Best for: City dwellers looking for a fun, economical, and distinctive car, buyers who value low running costs and quirky styling, and those who need the option of affordable four-wheel drive.
Not ideal for: Drivers who need a large boot or prioritise a smooth ride, and buyers looking for a premium-feeling interior or a slick, responsive infotainment system.

The Verdict
You should buy the Ignis if: You want a fun, economical, and distinctive city car, value low running costs and quirky styling, or need the option of affordable four-wheel drive.
Consider alternatives if: You need a large boot, prioritise a smooth ride, or want a premium-feeling interior and a slick infotainment system.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Ignis occupies a unique niche in the small SUV market. While rivals like the Dacia Duster offer more space, the Ignis wins on character, charm, and running costs. Its quirky looks, fun city driving manners, and the availability of an affordable 'Allgrip' four-wheel-drive system make it a compelling choice for buyers who want to stand out from the crowd without breaking the bank.

4.5 Overall rating
(7 reviews)Excellent car, moves well, feel very secure. The only thing, especially when the car is new and it is at night time if their was some light where the media and the buttons below are - for me that is the only thing missing.
I love the 2019 Suzki Ingis. Its a fantastic small SUV. Everything you need for a city or country driving. Highly recommend serving at a Suzki garage too. Japan certainly know how to build a superb car.
I love the look, style and features of this car but my current car has similar features bigger engine and same mpg. Im still looking for the ideal car.
Nice to look at quite roomy nice layout but underpowered
I liked the layout of the dashboard good size screen the different colour trim was a nice touch good seat position for me as I am under 5ft overall a nice nippy little car
