The Black SZ3 I eventually bought was found to be a very nice drive. Very responsive steering and good handling, suspension firm but comfortable, “needs to be with potholes everywhere”. £35 road Tax helps😀, my last 23yr old car was £315🤨. All good now👍

Fantastic small car, I would compare it to the mini but it is better. Great all round vision, well balanced & great spec.

Suzuki Swift (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fun to drive | Not as cheap as it once was |
| Low running costs | Small boot for the supermini class |
| Well equipped as standard | Rivals offer more passenger space |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Swift (2024-present) is a straightforward, petrol-powered supermini offering genuine driving enjoyment combined with low running costs. Now in its fourth generation, it uses the same platform as its predecessor but with a refreshed design and improved infotainment. At just under 3.9 metres long and weighing between 949kg and 1,037kg, the Swift is slightly smaller than rivals like the Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio. Available in two well-equipped trims—Motion and Ultra—both feature a 9.0-inch touchscreen with integrated satnav, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, plus comprehensive active safety systems including adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist.
Powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid assistance, the Swift produces 82bhp and achieves an impressive 64.2mpg officially, with real-world figures around 52mpg even when driven enthusiastically. The slick five-speed manual gearbox or CVT automatic can be paired with optional all-wheel-drive on the Ultra trim. Whilst the 265-litre boot is smaller than competitors, the Swift compensates with agile handling, well-weighted steering, and a genuinely fun driving experience. Insurance groupings of 25-28 are notably high for the engine size, which may deter younger drivers despite the car's obvious appeal.
Best for: Drivers seeking a fun, efficient supermini with excellent standard equipment, low running costs, and engaging handling dynamics.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising maximum boot space, budget-conscious young drivers concerned about insurance costs, or buyers needing a no-frills entry-level model.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suzuki Swift | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 35.2% | 4.4/5 |
| Dacia Sandero | 3/5 | 4.8/5 | 37.5% | 4.1/5 |
| Skoda Fabia | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 32.3% | 4.5/5 |
| Vauxhall Corsa | 3/5 | 4.5/5 | 41.2% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Swift if: You're seeking a fun, efficient supermini with excellent standard equipment, low running costs, and engaging handling dynamics.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum boot space, are a young driver concerned about insurance costs, or need a no-frills entry-level model.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Swift (2024-present) is an excellent choice in the supermini market, offering genuine driving enjoyment, impressive fuel economy, and comprehensive standard equipment. Whilst it's slightly smaller than rivals like the Skoda Fabia and Vauxhall Corsa, this contributes to its agile handling and low running costs. The Swift outperforms the Dacia Sandero for driving dynamics and refinement, though the Sandero offers better value for budget-conscious buyers. The Skoda Fabia provides more passenger space and slightly better overall ratings, but the Swift's superior driving experience and well-equipped standard specification make it a compelling choice for those prioritising enjoyment and efficiency over maximum practicality.
