Great little car. Well built. Very reliable. Bit quirky to look at but that’s part if the charm

Absolutely fell in love with this car the moment I saw it on your website. Previously had an Aygo , but prefer this model. The colour is stunning with the black roof and black alloys.

Toyota Aygo (2014-2022) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Excellent reliability, as you'd expect of a Toyota | Noisy on the motorway |
| Very economical to fuel and inexpensive to run | So-so Euro NCAP safety rating |
| Easy to drive and park | Small boot, even for a city car |
Quick Summary
The Toyota Aygo (2014-2022) is a compact, efficient, and reliable city car that competes with the Fiat 500, Volkswagen Up, and Skoda Citigo. This second-generation model retained the strengths of its predecessor, including its compact footprint and low running costs, whilst adding more playful exterior styling and modern features. It shares its underpinnings with the Citroën C1 and Peugeot 108. Available in three-door and five-door versions, the range was later slimmed to just the five-door model. The Aygo features a 168-litre boot, decent front space, and a straightforward interior layout with optional colour-coded inserts for added appeal.
Powered by a single 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 68-71bhp, the Aygo accelerates from 0-62mph in around 14 seconds and averages more than 60mpg, easily returning over 50mpg in real-world driving. An automated manual transmission is available, though the manual gearbox is more popular. The Aygo excels in town driving with easy manoeuvrability and comfort, but struggles on motorways where the engine becomes noisy and strained. Running costs are exceptionally low, with no VED for pre-April 2017 models, inexpensive servicing at around £145, and small, affordable tyres. The timing chain engine eliminates costly belt replacement concerns, and insurance sits in groups six to nine.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a reliable, economical city car for urban driving, new drivers, and those prioritising low running costs and Toyota reliability.
Not ideal for: Drivers undertaking frequent motorway journeys, those needing a spacious boot, or buyers seeking premium interior finishes and advanced safety features.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota Aygo | 3/5 | 4.8/5 | 36.0% | 4.4/5 |
| Kia Picanto | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 33.9% | 4.3/5 |
| Hyundai i10 | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 33.7% | 4.5/5 |
| Volkswagen Up | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 31.2% | 4.3/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Aygo if: You're seeking a reliable, economical city car for urban driving, a sensible first car for new drivers, or prioritising low running costs and Toyota's renowned dependability.
Consider alternatives if: You undertake frequent motorway journeys, need a spacious boot, or desire premium interior finishes and advanced safety features.
Competitive Position: The Toyota Aygo (2014-2022) is a strong contender in the used city car market, offering exceptional reliability, outstanding fuel economy, and very low running costs. Whilst it may not match rivals like the Hyundai i10 for expert ratings or the Volkswagen Up for premium feel, its Toyota badge, timing chain engine, and affordability make it an excellent choice for budget-conscious buyers and new drivers. The Aygo excels in urban environments but is less suited to motorway-heavy usage compared to some competitors.
